Note:
After the late 13th century the Khas empire collapsed and divided into the Baise rajya (22 principalities) in the Karnali-Bheri region and the Chaubise rajya (24 principalities) in the Gandaki region.  The rajya system under the unified Nepal granted vassal states a substantial measure of local autonomy. A few principalities were incorporated into the Gorkha empire on this condition and the seven principalities so included were Bajura, Bajhang, Darna, Jajarkot, Sallyan, Mustang and Udayapur. The pacification and control over the western principalities was not complete even by 1846 and the declining state had to face fresh trouble in 1847. Over the 19th century the local elites were able to extract concessions from the Nepali state by demanding that their rajyas be restored to them, and Achham, Bhirkot, Dhurkot, Dullu, Galkot, Garhunkot, Jumla, Kaski and Lamjung, Khumrikot and Pyuthan, Malbara, Malneta, and Musikot were granted the status of rajya. A few of the former Nepali princely states were annexed by British India like Kumaon annexed to Nepal 1790 annexed by British India in 1816, and Tulsipur annexed to Nepal in 1786 annexed by British India in 1859. Tulsipur (1786 NP, 1859 UK). For the Tibetan polity of Mustang under Nepal.
In 1959, the Rajya Courts Abolition Act deprived the rajyas of their judicial authority. The
rajya states and their rulers rights and privileges were abolished by the Rajya Rajauta (Petty States and Rulers) Act, 2017 (1961) on 9 Apr 1961, however the act allowed the some rulers of Mustang, Salyan, Jajarkot, and Bajhang to keep their inheritable titles.  The remaining traditional kingships under Nepali sovereignty were abolished on 7 Oct 2008.
